What is Chiropractic Care And How Can It Benefit Your Health
Proactive Chiropractic & Sports Medicine offers chiropractic treatments at its centers in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Torrance. Chiropractic care involves “readjustments” which properly align the spine with respect to the rest of the body. This may be done to alleviate pain, remobilize body parts, and avoid injury from everyday movements following an accident.
When you first visit our Torrance office, the chiropractor asks about any past illnesses or injuries, current health problems, any medicine you are taking, your lifestyle, sleep habits, and diet. After this, a physical examination is conducted where your spinal mobility is observed, followed by specialized tests to gauge blood pressure and bone consistency. If similar tests were done a short while back, these are skipped.
The chiropractor now begins administering treatment either at once, or on a subsequent scheduled visit. At the beginning, “spinal manipulations” are carried out, where the expert uses their hands to move your joints within their range of motion, and then shoves each gently. This works to realign the bones in the spine so that the latter becomes straighter. Sometimes, you may be given a massage on the soft tissues. Signs that this treatment is working include fatigue and small pain that show up a few days afterwards. This means the body is adjusting to the changes brought on by the new alignment. However, pain at this time is not a good thing, so tell your chiropractor if you experience any.
People suffering from spinal or back problems may choose chiropractic care as a means to regain mobility and painlessness, but this only works if they attend more than one session, usually at least a handful. Some therapy can last up to several weeks, with the first stages comprising over two weekly sessions, each 10 to 20 minutes long. Good response to the treatment may mean you can cut the frequency of therapy down to weekly, so if you see considerable improvement in your mobility, tell your chiropractor about it. The suggestions he puts forward will invariably be based on how close you are to achieving the goals set in the initial therapy session.
